The Rocks Off 100: Mason Lankford, Folk Family Revivalist

We were glad to be included in this article by Mr. Jef Rouner. Below is an excerpt and to read the whole article, you can click here.

“The band’s debut, Unfolding, was an amazing collection of spiritual and moving Americana tracks that was easily one of the best albums of 2011. Since then, he and his band of brothers (plus Caleb Pace) have kept on a regular schedule of concerts, including one alongside Willie Nelson at a 5,000-strong show. Next year the Revival will be branching out into other states like Arizona and California, as well as returning home for another outing with Willie. The big news is that the group has begun recording another album. Considering how unbelievable Unfolding was, especially with songs like “Fallin” and “Chasing a Rabbit,” it’ll be a tough act to follow.”

Lone Star Music Awards Recap

This is a bit late to post, but we had SUCH a great time at the Lone Star Music Awards in San Marcos a few weeks back. There was a great write up on the awards show and performances over at Examiner. Below is what was written about Folk Family Revival, but go read the whole article here to get connected to the other great artists that were at the show.

“Don’t be fooled by their name, this isn’t an old time folk band. While called by many folk-country americana, this band really rock. Made up of three brothers and a lifelong best friend, they call themselves four brothers. They have exploded on the scene recently, and have been opening for many of the biggest names in Texas. Before their set, I had never seen them or heard their music, but will be digging into the record soon. ”Fallen”, off their debut record “Unfolding” is destined to be a fan favorite for a long time.”

"Chasing a Rabbit" on Justified Tonight!

We were so excited to find out last week that our song, Chasing a Rabbit, would be on one of our favorite shows, “Justified”. It aires tonight at 9pm CST on FX. Our buddy, Jef Rouner, wrote an article in the Houston Press today about that placement – big thanks to him! There’s a quote below and you can read the full article here.

“Houston’s Folk Family Revival remains one of the best acts in the city. The three Lankford Brothers and their buddy Caleb Pace released an unimaginably perfect Americana album last year with Unfolding, which was nominated for two Lone Star Music Awards this past weekend, and have continued to build a following with stellar live shows. Now their star falls even higher as they are set to be featured on the FX series Justified tomorrow at 10/9 CST.”

Below is a small paragraph from the blog, “Bands That Need Love Too”. We were honored that she wrote about us – and we’re looking forward to seeing our Austin Family soon! To read the whole article, click here.

“Based out of Magnolia, TX, Folk Family Revival sounds like you’d imagine they would from their name. At least, that’s what you could say if it wouldn’t be such a dastardly understatement. You see, sure, they fit the bill as folk. You can get that just by looking at a picture of them. But it is some of the cleanest, best sounding folk I have found in a long time. This is the type of band that you would see opening for Mumford & Sons, The Head and the Heart, Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers and Ray LaMontagne and while you may have gone in never having heard them, you’d leave knowing that you’d look them up as soon as you got home.”

Unfolding Featured on the "Feel Bad For You Monthly Mix Tape" for February

We are SO honored to be featured on the February edition of the ”Feel Bad For You Monthly Mix Tape”. A big thanks to Mike Orren for submitting us for this. Ninebullets also posted it as well. Below is an excerpt from Mike regarding our song. Click here to go to the site and download ALL the songs from February’s mix. They’re great.

“My friends literally dragged me out to McKinney, Texas, to catch this young Houston band a few weeks ago and I’ve worn out their album since. In their early twenties, these three brothers and their best friend are turning out some of the most mature, nuanced lyrics I’ve heard in a while with a sound that at times echoes the Avett’s, the 97′s and Ray Wylie Hubbard. It’s spiritual music, but not in a preachy way. It sneaks up on you and manages gravitas and fun in the same number. My only quibble is another tune where they have a beautiful line about being alone and maybe, like Johnny, finding your June Carter when you’re old. (Sorry boyos, I refuse to call 36 old.) That said, it’s a varied and polished disc without a clunker– but this song, the title track is my favorite. It’s become the theme song of my 2012 to date.”
